Hey, I saved up the cash and will be heading to Osaka in January. A few questions:
1 - Cheap/clean guest house to live in initially - Where?
2 - Current job availability for teachers - Good?
3 - Estimated monthly expenditure - How much?
4 - Going from a tourist visa to work visa IN Japan - Can do?
BTW, I'll be on a Canadian passport if that'll make any difference to number 4 above.

No you cant transfer to a work visa from a tourist unless you get the job leave the country...too much bother for an employer
come in a work hol visa \Employers can check you out at interview and start you the next day if you are right for them, later transferring to the work visa. Only a very doubtful organisation will give you a job on a tourist visa |

Actually you can do that. Now I'll just say that that was the case for me 4 years ago. At the time I was under the impression that I would have to make a trip to Korea or somewhere, to finalise the process.
However, the school that sponsored me organised everything while I was in Japan. I went from a tourist visa to a 3 year working visa without having to leave.
I'm almost certain that many others have had to do a 'border run', but am almost certain that many others haven't. |
